NeSI Annual report
•••
Humans have the ability to change the global climate.
NeSI’s supercomputing infrastructure is used to quantify our influence on our climate… “Human influence on the climate system is clear, and recent anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases are the highest in history. Recent climate changes have had widespread impacts on human and natural systems.” Using a striking interactive visual on the NeSI 2016 annual report front cover, gave us the ability to bring this notion to life. The annual report tells the story of what NeSi are doing to help cutting edge researchers combat this issue. By leveraging our planet as the hero visual in its entirety, sitting centred in the blackness of space, the metaphor of vulnerability and fragility is a strong statement in itself. By using thermochromatic ink, we have the ability for the earth’s image to react to the heat of human touch, demonstrating our direct effect on climate change. A thermal signature is reveals the warming seas and implies human culpability, creating a relevant connection for those that touch it, and setting the theme for the rest of the document.

Other Annual Reports produced for NeSI

NeSI briefed us to produce their annual reports to be distributed amongst various stake holders such as research institutes, government departments and investors. Along with the institutes progress report they wanted to highlight some of the many significant big data reasearch projects that they had partnered with. NeSI were clear in their brief that while the nature of the content was academic they did not want the report to look dry and clinical they did want their annual report to be bright and contemporary and have a 'stand out' factor.
